While WinRAR 6.24 wasn't the latest update (WinRAR 7.00 Beta 3 was released on December 13th, 2023), it still introduced some improvements worth mentioning:
Performance:
- Faster CRC32 checksum calculation: This optimizes extraction and archiving performance for archives using this type of checksum, particularly noticeable for large files and those saved in "Store" mode without compression.
Customization:
- Maximum dictionary size control: You can now specify the maximum allowed dictionary size (in gigabytes) for archiving and extraction through the Registry key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WinRAR\Policy" using the variables "MaxDictA" and "MaxDictE". This offers more granular control over memory usage during compression and decompression.
Other fixes:
- Information about the total number of files and folders in the WinRAR status bar now always displays accurately (previously, an extra folder was sometimes shown).
- The "Checksum" column is now displayed correctly, even after being turned off and on in the column settings.
